It looks more “titanium-like”— it has a slightly darker silver color. It’s small, responsive and the image quality is out of this world. I felt the camera was too fiddly in my hand, with placement of controls and a slippery, low-profile hand grip that meant it felt quite precarious. Nice review! I like the idea of just “setting and forgetting” the camera. The auto-focus on the camera is lightning fast, even in low light. Based on my purely un-empirical and un-scientific standards, I would measure the autofocusing abilities of the cameras below: It seems the X100T has a faster autofocus than the X-T1 (because it has a fixed lens, and is optimized for the body). Also at this point, I prefer the X100T over the X-T1 for street photography, as the X100T matches the X-T1 in terms of autofocusing speed, is smaller, has Wifi functionality, has as stiff buttons as the X-T1, and is lighter. I had absolutely no problem walking around with it all day around my neck— no strain, didn’t even feel like it was there. When I set up the X100T to put it through its paces I placed it on auto ISO (200-6400) with a minimum shutter speed of 1/125 (I wish it went to 1/250) auto-focus, and Aperture Priority*. Street photographers have been anticipating a new X100 for months and the Fuji X100F is finally here! One of the first questions that I had about the X100T (over the X100S) was regarding “what’s new?”. Personally, I actually prefer to use the EVF (electronic viewfinder) on the X100T, as it is much improved to the X100S. The new model is lightyears ahead of the original X100 and it is set for major success. Hello! I found one of the biggest problems of the X100S was that it was quite easy to knock around the exposure-compensation dial (on the far right of the camera). Do you think the AF on this Fuji is quick enough to not miss a shot with moving subjects like these little monsters? Tips, tricks, and tools of the trade. The X100T has drive mode that is incredibly fast, you can turn all sounds and lights off so your toddler won’t even know you’re taking their photograph. With that being said, I did miss a shot because the camera took too long to wake up. It looks more premium. Great insight! Greg, the camera will auto shut off after a few minutes and that is when it will take a moment to restart. Too many functions and features. Mark Cohen and Bruce Gilden are two great example of street photographers who have made great use of flash. Fujifilm also hit a home-run (at least in my book) by making the menus simpler. The camera struggles a little when shooting wide open close-up shots, like macro. So I think the million-dollar question (or the ~$1300 question) is whether the X100T is “worth it”. The original Fuji X100 came after the Leica X1 and both models set the current trend for fixed-lens 35mm shooters that are particularly suited to street photography. I found myself taking shots with the X100T that I would not have attempted with a larger camera, primarily because I was less worried about people reacting to the camera. The Nikon is just too impressive for him so every time I try to take a shot, he just stops doing whatever and I’m thinking that the Fuji would be much more discreet. This felt instantaneous. Therefore I find that you can shoot the X100T at slower shutter speeds (and have sharper images) than the X-T1. Thanks for your response. The X100T has simplified it a lot— which makes me a lot less frustrated when hunting for stuff to change. Anyways, I am still pretty committed to shooting film at this point (most of my personal work back home in Berkeley, California in my neighborhood is shot on my Hasselblad 6×6 medium-format camera on Kodak Portra 400) and I’m still focusing on my “Suits” and “Only in America” series on 35mm with my Leica MP and Contax T3 (also on Kodak Portra 400). For Colour: Provia standard is OK. However, for street photography, I suggest that you consider shooting in Shutter Priority Mode. Buying you the new X100T won’t make you a better street photographer. There is nothing worse than having to avoid an area because of the limitations of your camera. The size is probably not such a problem, it’s more the placement of controls, which means that I can’t find a secure to wrap my hand around it. Long story short (before I delve into the details), I think if you have an X100 (and want an upgrade), I think the X100T is a substantial enough upgrade. If you’ve done a lot of Street Photography you’ll be intimately familiar with the wide range of available light from street to street, block to block. Some of you have asked what settings I use for street photography. I have the X100S and considered “upgrading” to the X100T but I’m not sure I can justify the cost vs. new features. The camera was snappy, and rarely missed autofocus on anything during the day. It is a beautiful Sunday here in Dubai, and it is my day off “work”. Let’s start at the beginning with a bit of background. Personally, I will most likely carry this camera with a neck strap because of its small and discreet size (more on that below). If anything, I find that I often have to add a ton of fake grain to make digital photos look grittier— as they look “too clean” straight out of the camera. The camera passed my high ISO test with flying colors. Yes, I think the auto focus is fast enough… I use it for street photography and as you know there are moments that slip by very quickly and the X100T never misses a beat. As long as it’s dry, warm and light we are out there taking pictures. If you purchase the camera through my affiliate links (everything on my blog that points to Amazon), I get around a 7.5% commission fee— which helps me pay my rent, my film, and my coffee/espresso habit (which is a good thing— which leads to a lot more free articles and resources for this blog). My question is how do you back button focus with the X100F. What I realized is that the X100T can take the same or better images than the Nikon Df because it is smaller and more discreet allowing me to create more candid shots of my subjects. Would prefer to have a straight out of camera JPG shots as I would prefer not to post production the photos. Also at night if you use the AF-illumination light, the camera autofocuses quite solidly. The biggest changes I noticed are the directional buttons around the OK button (used to be a spinning wheel) and the wheel below the exposure compensation dial now spins (it used to just push from side to side).
